Music on Your Mind

If you haven't checked out Noisetrade you really need to. Free legal songs? Ummm....yes. One of their newest gems comes from Butterfly Boucher, whose name you probably find vaguely familiar if you like Sarah McLachlan or Missy Higgins. For the past two years she has been touring and writing music with them.

A release date of June 5, 2012 has finally been set for Brandi Carlile's new album, called "Bear Creek." Named after the studio where the band recorded most of the songs, "Bear Creek" was co-produced by Brandi and the twins (Tim & Phil Hanseroth), along with Trina Shoemaker.

"That wsn't me" is the single, and should be heading to radio soon.

Ingrid Michaelson announced today that she is coming out with a new album called "Human Again," which is billed by both she and her producer as a somewhat darker album than what Ingrid-listeners have been used to. This 15-track (at least 15-track on iTunes with the bonuses) album comes out on January 24, 2012, but you can pre-order the album on iTunes as of today.

So. The long build-up to the release of Rachael Yamagata's album, called Chesapeake with a Pledge campaign established expectations very high. Once or twice a week, Rachael would send updates with videos and even songs from the album. I loved both "Even if I Don't" and "Starlight" right away. The beat was just right, the music and lyrics were powerful.

Adele has the most infectious, joyous laugh I've ever heard (cackle, really). Her music in general, however, could no be farther from that. For her music, she reaches into the depths of despair and comes out with something beautiful and simple. The pain comes out and touches us, because most of us have been there too.

Katie Herzig's "Free My Mind" video came out along with her new album The Waking Sleep. I must say, something must be in the air this week with awesome music videos (see Sara Bareille's Gonna Get Over You video). Katie's video doesn't have the same kind of storyline that Sara's does, but it does have some really awesome effects. The more I watch it the more it grows on me. Check it out below:

Katie Herzig's new (and much anticipated) album "The Waking Sleep" comes out this Tuesday, September 20. In preparation for its release I present to you this behind-the-scenes video. It's 14 minutes of interviews with Katie and the producer of the "The Waking Sleep" Cason Cooley.

Sara Bareilles paired up with friend and actor Jonas Hill for her new video "Gonna Get Over You" which came out September 22, 2011. She calls it a "mishmash of Grease and West Side Story." In an interview with Rolling Stone Bareilles said the following:

"There’s something really special about being someone’s first, like he’s a video virgin," she said. "I feel like I’m in new territory as well because I’m dancing for the first time, it’s a totally different thing I’ve never done."

Rachael Yamagata's got a brand new, cute, upbeat and smart single called "Even if I Don't" and she's come out with a video for it that's amazing. You'll find that I am very critical of music videos--even of my favorite artists. Mostly this is due to a lack of creativity and thinking out of the box. You'll find more and more videos of artists just singing with something random going on in the background.

This is different. Some might think it odd, but it was done well.

Sarah McLachlan will perform at the dedication ceremony for the Flight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville, Pennsylvania on September 10, 2011. The Saturday event, as well as the memorial ceremony on September 11, will commemorate the 10th anniversary of the September 11 attacks. Family members, friends, dignitaries and special guests will also attend the event. A full list of speakers is forthcoming.
